San Joaquin County — “We deserve a seat at the table, and a voice in American politics,” said Congressional Candidate Ricky Gill.
Gill is challenging Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton) for the 9th Congressional District seat. Following every Federal Census, new boundaries for political districts are established; Gill, McNerney, and a second republican candidate, John McDonald, will be running for the newly-drawn district.
Ricky Gill, a Lodi native, is the son of immigrant parents; he is a small business owner and a former member of the California State Board of Education. Gill delivered remarks regarding educational equity at the California Republican Party convention in 2004, and later continued his work in public education as an adviser to the California Secretary for Education, where he was charged with facilitating Governor Schwarzenegger’s Initiative-to-Turn around Failing Schools. He has worked for former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, and has served as a math and literacy mentor at KIPP Bay Area charter schools.
Gill has a record of community service, he has volunteered at St. Mary’s Interfaith Community, Lodi Memorial Hospital, the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission and he sits on the Lodi Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors. “If there is someone intelligent and hardworking is Ricky,” highlighted Peruvian Ivan Chicchon, who has known Gill for nearly 8 years. “He is a person who follows his passion.”
“He has the heart for the local community and he wants to improve San Joaquin,” shared Virginia Martinez, a Lodi Resident.
His family owns Gill Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Group and vineyards in the region.
