Handicapped Access Board Appeals Vacancy

STOCKTON, CA – The City of Stockton is currently accepting applications for five (5) vacancies on the Stockton Handicapped Access Board of Appeals. The term of office is four (4) years. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 5:30 p.m.

To qualify, applicants must be residents of the City of Stockton and not hold any public office or position of employment with the City of Stockton. The Board consists of two (2) members from the construction field, such as General Building Contractor, Plumbing

Contractor, Electrical Contractor, Mechanical Contractor, Engineer, or Architect, who will also serve on the Housing Board of Appeals; two (2) disabled persons and one (1) from the lay-community.

The purpose of this board is to hear and decide on appeals of administrative decisions, including, but not limited to, denials of requests to use alternative methods of providing access to public accommodations by physically disabled persons, as required by the California Health and Safety Code, Part 5.5, Section 19955, 35 seq. The Board may

approve, disapprove or modify Building Division interpretation of Part 5.5 of Division 13 of the Health and Safety Code, including the exceptions contained in Section 19957, and enforce actions taken by the Building Division.

The Handicapped Access Board of Appeals meets as-needed on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Development Department Permit Center, 345 N. El Dorado Street. Remuneration is $20 per meeting, not to exceed $40 per month.
