(bw) Stockton, CA -The Latin American Club (LAC) recognized the academic achievements of local students at the 45th annual scholarship Banquet held at the Waterfront Hotel on Friday, June 10.
The LAC scholarship program awarded a total of $3,500 to six graduating Latino high school students that ranked among the top 10 of their graduating class with 4.0 and above GPAs.
“Congratulations to the students, you have achieve a lot with your hard work and determination,” said Richard Rios, LAC Vice President, in his opening remarks.
This year’s $500 scholarship winners are Gerardo Soto and Yvette Franco from Edison High school; Yesica Corona and Lilian Juarez from Cesar Chavez High School; and Laura Magallanes from Franklin High School. The $1,000 Memorial Scholarship went to Stephanie Lopez from Edison High School. “I feel very excited. At the end all the hard work pays off,” said scholarship recipient Laura Magallanes.
All of the awardees will continue their education in universities across California; such as, University of California Merced, University of the Pacific and California State University, Stanislaus. “I will be attending University of San Diego this fall and I plan to study Biochemical Engineering,” said Gerardo Soto.
