Mexican Consulate Opens Its Doors to Students

By Mayra Barrios ( bw) — Sacramento, CA The Mexican Consul, Carlos Gonzales Gutierrez, met on Monday with university students in an open forum at the recently established Mexican Consulate site in Sacramento. Miguel Molina represented Sacramento State University (CSU Sacramento) as an Admission Counselor and Andres Resendes represented the University of California Davis (UC Davis) as a history professor. Both universities attended in attempts to educate students learning about the services offered at the Mexican Consul Office in Sacramento.

“This event is for students of the Mexican community to know and be aware of the benefits of the consulate,” said Cuitláhuac Medina, Intern at the consulate and current Student of International Affairs at UC Davis.

Conversation with participating students covered an array of topics including education and media perceptions; and it allowed students an open forum for discussion. “It’s my first time in an event like this… This is what we need to connect and to help each other,” said Seyda Elias, Health Administration Student at CSU Sacramento.

The Consulate Offices offer a high range of services to the Mexican community in the region. Among the services are public notary and legal help. Carlos Gonzales Gutierrez, Mexican Consul, encouraged all students to collaborate with his office to solve some of the problems affecting the Latino community.
