The Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) Community Partnership Advisory is seeking community input to ensure a bright future for SUSD students and families.
On Saturday March 5, 2011 —in what is being dubbed The Honoring Our Educators Forum— organizers expect participants to add their concerns, reflections, ideas and values into an Action Plan. “The Action Plan will be a tool to support the mission of safe and healthy communities that lead to educated and successful youth,” said California Rural Legal Assistance’s Joanna Basulto-Horning, adding that, at the forum, they will also honor some Stockton Unified teachers and administrators. “We will focus on creating a healthy dialogue between the district’s education stakeholders,” she continued, “centered on identifying potential solutions for the challenges facing our district.”
The Forum comes as a complement to last fall’s Community Mobilizing Conference, at the University of Pacific, where some concerns of the policies and practices in SUSD were the subject. “The information was recorded and contributed to our Action Plan Development,” said San Joaquin Delta College Outreach director Ariana Gonzalez, “students and parents were invited to speak directly to the Superintendent of SUSD and voice their concerns as well as explore ways the community can be active participants in crafting solutions for their concerns.”
The organizers hope this Action Plan “will help guide a UNIFIED strategy for change that will support both our youth and our district to better navigate the various obstacles we are faced with in the years ahead.”
The Community Advisory Partnership partners include the American Civil Liberties Union, California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc., Data Co-Op, ESPINO Coalition, Fathers & Families of San Joaquin, Lao Family Community of Stockton, Peace & Justice Network of San Joaquin County, San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton Unified School District and the UC Davis School of Education.
The Forum will take place on Saturday March 5, 2011, 8:30 to noon, at Delta College’s DeRicco Student Services, Rm. #275. For more information call (209) 946-0605 or (209) 954-5151 Ext. 6144
