According to Manteca Republican Frank Aquila’s opinion piece “The Tragedy after the AZ Shooting Tragedy” (Bilingual Weekly, 1/9/11) I may be not only a communist extremist, but I could start shooting people any minute.
In his article he advanced that Jared Loughner —the Arizona disturbed young man who left U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded and a crowd of others dead or injured — was a God-hating communist upset about Giffords’ vote against former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In order to qualify such claim, Aquila pointed out Loughner was akin to communistic readings.
In his YouTube website Loughner did, indeed, claim reading Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto, but he also said he read Mein Kampf (Hiltler’s creed,) Animal Farm, Brave New World, The Wizard of OZ, Aesop Fables, The Odyssey, Alice Adventures Into Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, Peter Pan, To Kill A Mockingbird, We The Living, Phantom Toll Booth, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Pulp, Through The Looking Glass, Siddhartha, The Old Man And The Sea, Gulliver’s Travels, The Republic, and Meno (although I suspect he meant “Nemo” the little clownfish).
Aside from Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, We The Living and Phantom Toll Booth I’ve read all of them… and, honestly, I don’t feel communistic nor feel any urge to go shooting anyone.
I also read Henry Ford’s “The International Jew” (1920-1922) and I do not feel animosity against Jews because of it.
My guess is that deranged people will do crazy things no matter what they read, and taking one reading out of many is just preposterous. Then again this comes from the same people who claim Obama was born in Africa and that the recession was caused by the Democrats.
