Several hundred people lined up on the early afternoon at the Stockton Arena this past Monday, December 20, 2010, just to have a chance to skate the same ice that has given the Thunders so many victories.
Some did skate, others stumbled. Many just held to the side bars. But, after everything was said and done, an estimated 300 people, some as young as a 2 and as old as 67, had experience the Arena ice, sip hot chocolate and spoken to the in-house Santa Claus about their hopes for Christmas morning.
In spite of its popularity —Monday’s session was sold out— opportunities to practice this activity in Stockton have actually dwindle to the single rink at the Oak Park Ice Arena.
Stockton Arena’s ice will remain open to the public today until 9 p.m. and tomorrow between 1 p.m. through 9 p.m. After that, skate aficionados will have to wait until after Christmas when the Oak Park Ice Arena is scheduled to reopen.
