The mid-day event started with welcoming remarks by Judy Chambers of the University of Pacific (a past Athena Award recipient) and followed with Recognition of sponsors and past recipients by Rick Goucher and Finally with presentation of the award to the recipients.
The Stockton Athena Award created by founder Martha Mayhood Mertz in 1982. The program purpose is to recognize and honor extraordinary business and professional women.
The Chamber of Commerce lists their determining factors for the Athena Award

“it is quite a humbling experience.. especially considering the long list of extremely accomplished women come before me..” explains Berberian while accepting her award. Her list of accomplishments included sending 15,000 local students to a theatre production at the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration Tour and her work with the YMCA.
“There is nothing more rewarding in life than building people up..” Says Lowery while receiving her award. Lowery gave her time to a year-long Youth Ministry Coaching program and works in a Middle School ministry leadership program with First Baptist Church.
