Soccer in the parks, schools

Stockton, CA / Bilingual Weekly

Every Sunday, Stockton parks and school grounds become soccer fields where thousands practice a sport that —spite of being the most popular in the whole world— is shunned in the United States.

These scenes were taken during a Central Valley Youth League game between the Under-14 teams Atlas of Stockton (wearing green) and Patterson United (Stanislaus County) on Sunday, October 17, at McNair High School in North Stockton.  Atlas won 2-0 with both goals scored by Hector Maldonado.
