RTD to Hold Public Hearings

Stockton, CASan Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) has scheduled nine (9) public hearings to invite public comments on the proposed January 2011 Service Changes including the Airport Way Corridor, and Unmet Transit Needs.

The proposed January 2011 Service Changes include the launch of Metro Express: Airport Corridor (Route 44) which will connect with Route 40 at the Downtown Transit Center (DTC) to provide seamless express bus service between Hammer Lane and the Stockton Metropolitan Airport. Capital funding for this project provided by several federal programs administered by the Federal Transit Administration, while operational funding identified through the proposed streamlining of service hours to meet ridership demand.

At these hearings, RTD staff will present the proposed service changes and receive and respond to public input. All comments received will be reviewed for inclusion in the proposed January 2011 service changes final report, which will be presented to RTD’s Board of Directors for consideration at their November 2010 meeting.

The annual process of identifying unmet transit needs and determining whether or not they are reasonable to meet is required to obtain transit funding under the State Transportation Development Act. All unmet needs comments received at the hearings will be incorporated into a summary report which will be before RTD’s Board of Directors for its consideration, and upon approval, will be forwarded to the San Joaquin Council of Governments for inclusion as a part of their annual assessment of unmet transit needs in San Joaquin County.
