Morelos Unveiled

Bilingual Weekly

Stockton, CA September 30– The unveiling of the Bust of José María Morelos y Pavón, the “Servant of the Nation,” was donated to the City of Stockton by the Government of Mexico.

Morelos y Pavón, a priest, political and Mexican militant assumed  leadership of the independence movement, from Spain, following the execution of the priest Miguel Hidalgo.  Pavón, conceived and wrote a document which embodied his ideals of justice and equality, one of Mexico’s most important political texts, known as “Sentiments of the Nation.”

“It is a matter of much pride for the Consulate General, that from now on this great Mexican hero occupies a privileged space, one of the best places in Stockton: McLeod Park. ”

As mentioned by Roberto A. Aguilar, from Comerciante Unidos, during the unveiling ceremony“From now on Mexicans and friends of Mexico will have a special place where we can meet, a place that will make us feel like we have a piece of Mexico in a sister city. Stockton has opened its doors to us; linked to this city by strong and unbreakable ties. Our infinite gratitude to the city for giving us their best place; our gratitude and appreciation to the organized community in Stockton; and, particularly, to Comerciantes Unidos, for making possible that our beloved hero came to stay in your wonderful city.”
