Nearly 3,000 soccer fans gathered to cheer for 2010 World Cup champion Spain as it defeated Holland (1 – 0). In addition to the large screen finale, fans got a special treat with live gladiators known as the Mexican Luchadores. “Lucha Libre is known to be the second most appreciated sport in Mexico ,” explained organizer Ulises Magaña event promoter. Ulises was excited to see the response of the community as they cheered during the game.
Luchadores are known for their mysterious masks and aerial acrobatics from Mexico and have reached global audiences. “We have toured Asia , Europe , Latin America , North America and many cities,” shared Pentagon, a professional wrestler.
Wrestlers in the ring were Pentagon, Mascara Sagrada, Rockeros Del Diablo, Latin Exploision, Brian Cage and El Padrino, Mighty Pollos, Payaso del Rodeo, and many more. “We are happy to visit Stockton and to be part of the world cup finale celebration,” conveyed Mascara Sagrada as he autographed posters for his fans and watched the soccer match. .
Among the audience, children enjoyed the sporting performances of the luchadores and who are considered Mexico ’s heroes, “Mascara Sagrada is my hero, I like how he and his partners beat the bad guys,” explained Jose Ramirez de 9 años. Additionally, local luchadores who admire the talent of their professional counter parts had an opportunity to showcase their moves, “It’s an honor for me to be here wrestling with professionals who I grew up admiring,” highlighted Latin Explosion.
At the end of the day after neary 4 hours of entertainment, “we had a great time,” shared Gerando Garcia.
